Although relatively unknown in major metropolitan areas, real-life “poker runs” have been a familiar part of rural and small-town American culture for over 50 years. More often than not, it’s a day-long charitable event sponsored by a local automotive, motorcycle, snowmobile, or boating club. The rules are simple: Participants travel from place to place, picking up a playing card at each location. At the end of the day, the player with the best five-card poker hand wins. Each year, millions of people participate in poker runs throughout North America.
